The Carson High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) secured a first-place overall finish in the 2025 Washoe County Silver State Brigade Drill Season, concluding with a win at North Valleys High School on April 19.
The Carson NJROTC cadets achieved a sweep of the season’s drill meets, claiming victories at Carson High School on March 15, Spanish Springs High School on April 5 and North Valleys High School on April 19.
The team excelled across multiple categories, including personnel inspection, unarmed regulation, unarmed exhibition, armed regulation, armed exhibition and color guard.
“After months of rigorous training, our teams showcased their exceptional skill, discipline and teamwork,” said Senior Chief Jerry Skirvin, NJROTC instructor at Carson High School. “In a highly competitive field, we outperformed opposing JROTC units in Washoe and Churchill County.”
The NJROTC program, offered in more than 600 high schools across the United States, is designed to teach students the values of citizenship, leadership, character and community service, while providing a foundation for future military or civilian careers.
“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our cadets, instructors and supporters,” Senior Chief Skirvin continued. “We look forward to building on this accomplishment in the upcoming season.”
