Hot August Nights is a special event for people with generations of family members connected to it. We spoke with one such local family who says they've been attending for over 30 years.
Brittany Decair, the Marketing Manager for Hot August Nights, told us, "I’d come out with my dad. He's a car enthusiast, so it's kind of how I got into that. I've learned a little bit about cars. Then I had a son who's into cars as well, so I kind of get both ends of it now."
Decair says working for the event now feels like a full circle.
One of her favorite things is seeing familiar people year after year that continue to come.
Decair said, "I love it. There's so many people that I know that I run into and they're like, ‘oh, I remember you when you were young, this tall,’ and so it's great to see everybody out and just be, remembered. These are all people that have created friendships and bonds, and it's like a second family to a lot of these guys that come out here."
She discussed how meaningful it is to see her own kids share the same love for classic cars her dad inspired in all of them, and now she gets to see them work on cars together.
Mike Cassingham, Brittany's dad, told us about him and his grandson working on a car together. "We built that. It took us about three years, and he knew nothing. Anything bodywork, mechanical, electrical. He's learned a lot."
Both Decair and her dad say how important they feel it is to have new generations get involved with working on classic cars.
They said this event can only continue if younger people get more involved.
Decair told us, "It's a show that tends to be an older demographic. The show is actually built around nostalgia and families, so to get the next generation out here is a huge initiative that we have. So both my generation and my children's generation to get those people out here to make it more family-friendly, bring the families out, have a good time."
They really encourage people to come down and enjoy the good entertainment and talk to others who share the same love for classic cars.
They say good friendships and great memories can come out of it.
