The City of Reno is looking for feedback on their 2025 to 2029 Consolidated Plan for Affordable Housing needs.
As a part of this new program the City of Reno is aiming to identify and address any fair housing issues. They're hoping to figure out what issues they need to prioritize after hearing what people have to say in order to improve it.
"We have to lay out to HUD over the next five years, how we plan to spend the entitlement funds that the city receives each year," said Monica Kirch, Director of Housing Neighborhood Development. "And from there each year we submit an action plan that gives it a little more detail and it coincides back to the consolidated plan."
The city receives three different grants. The Community Development Block Grant, Home Investment Partnerships Program, and Emergency Solutions Grant. In a survey people are asked to choose which grant should apply to the most needed services. For example, public facilities, first-time homebuyer assistance, or improvement of emergency shelters.
"The survey asks you to rank different priorities in the community," said Jayna Litz, Housing Manager. "If you think that there should be affordable housing, supportive services, economic development, things like that and you rank them in order of your highest priority."
If you're unable to attend the meeting their survey will remain open through February while priority needs and strategic plans are still being developed. Later in the spring the public will once again get a chance to review the new draft and comment before it is presented to city council.
