The Washoe County coroner has identified the pedestrian killed by a car on Prater Way in Sparks on Sunday night. 

The medical examiner says 39-year-old Joshua E. Andell died on scene due to blunt force trauma. 

The coroner says Andell is believed to be homeless.  

ORIGINAL STORY:

Officials are investigating a fatal crash tonight in Sparks on Prater Way between a car and a pedestrian.

Officers responded to the area of 18th Street and Prater Way in Sparks around 8:00 p.m. for a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash.

Upon arrival, officials found a man down in the middle of the street. The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The identity of the man is not being released at this time - officials first need to notify next of kin. He is believed to have been homeless.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with officials.

Neither speed nor alcohol/impairment were a factor in the crash.

Prater Way has re-opened between 18th and 21st Streets after being closed immediately following the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
