A firefighter with the Reno Fire Department was injured while protecting homes during the Davis Fire, and firefighters are asking the public to help him during his recovery.

In a post on Facebook, the Reno Firefighters Association says Alex Aldana suffered life-altering and potentially career-ending injuries during the Davis Fire.

A GoFundMe page was established to raise money for Aldana. It has so far raised more than $10,300 toward a $50,000 goal from 107 donations.

The GoFundMe page says Aldana is a 27-year veteran of the fire service, serving with the Reno Fire Department since 2005.

He suffered an eye injury while helping protect homes in the St. James Village area.

"He has a long road to recovery and will be away from work for the foreseeable future as he works to possibly regain his eyesight," said the GoFundMe page in part.
