The City of Reno announced the completion and ongoing implementation of several improvement projects along the Downtown Reno Riverwalk, extending from Fisherman’s Park #1 through Booth Street along the Truckee River.
These projects are part of the Truckee River Vision Plan and are funded by the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program, authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Completed improvements include the installation of 45 garbage bins and 30 pet waste stations. Solar lights have been fully installed from Fisherman’s Park #1 to John Champion Park.
Additionally, improvements at West Street Plaza have been finalized, including new furniture such as bistro tables and chairs, shade umbrellas, lounge chairs, seating features known as “Pebbles,” and murals by local artist Anthony Ortega.
Other enhancements are currently in progress or scheduled to begin soon, such as painted railings and other metal features, which began installation in April 2025, are expected to be completed by the end of May.
Hard-wired lighting improvements are also expected to be completed by the end of the month. The first phase of wayfinding signage installations is anticipated to begin in summer 2025.
“These improvements are so important to the revitalization of our downtown corridor and offers refreshed spaces for all of our residents to enjoy,” said Vice Mayor & Councilmember Kathleen Taylor, Ward 1. “We invite our locals and visitors to comes out to these spaces, participate in all the upcoming events, and look forward to a vibrant summer in our Biggest Little City.”
In addition to the improvements, events will take place at West Street Plaza from now through the start of fall as part of the City’s effort to activate the downtown Reno corridor.
These activities were identified in the Truckee River Vision Plan as a means of supporting revitalization efforts in the area.
