A woman was hospitalized then arrested after deputies say she fell out of her own moving car during a DUI crash in Reno.

Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:43 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian incident at Foothill Road and Broili Drive.

When they arrived, they found a woman sitting in the middle of the roadway with bystanders nearby.

The woman told deputies she had “run herself over.”

According to investigators, she showed signs of significant alcohol impairment, including slurred speech, confusion, and a strong smell of alcohol.

An eyewitness at the scene told deputies the woman appeared disoriented while sitting in her car and had tried to drive away after checking for damage.

The witness said she opened the driver’s door while the car was still moving, fell out, and landed on the roadway. The car continued to roll and hit a stop sign.

Due to possible internal injuries, the woman was taken by REMSA to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

After being medically cleared, she was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility for Driving Under the Influence (DUI – 1st offense).

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder to the public:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone on the road in danger, including the driver.
  • Even seemingly minor decisions, like choosing to drive after “just a few drinks,” can lead to serious injury or death.
  • If you plan to drink, plan ahead and use a rideshare, taxi, or designated driver.
