The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is joining the nationwide Feeding America network in calling on northern Nevada and northeastern California to play their part during Hunger Action Month this September.
The cost of groceries and energy continues to put pressure on household budgets, said the Food Bank in a release, but everyone can help their neighbors have access to food.
Northern Nevada has also seen thousands impacted by recent wildfires and evacuations, making access to food an even larger issue.
“Hunger Action Month reminds us that addressing hunger is about more than putting food on the table—it’s about strengthening the foundation of a community and ensuring every neighbor has the support they need to thrive,” said Nicole Lamboley, president & CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “The recent fires have reinforced how important it is to have that community support in place when our neighbors need it most. Together, we can make sure people have access to the food they need, in times of crisis and every day.”
Supporters can donate directly to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and every dollar helps to provide three meals.
Community members who would like to volunteer can also sign themselves up at fbnn.org. Participants can also donate directly at fbnn.org or spend a couple of hours volunteering for the organization.
Hunger Action Day falls on September 29, when Feeding America will release the 2026 Elevating Voices: Insights Report, an annual, nationally representative survey of the experiences, concerns, and policy views of people facing hunger in the United States.
Supporters can show their support of those who face hunger in their community on Hunger Action Day by wearing orange, posting a photo, and letting their network know that food insecurity is important to them.
Circus Circus Reno will be turning orange from September 1-9 in honor of Hunger Action Month, and The Atlantis Reno Casino Fountain will be orange on September 29.
