Don't be alarmed if you see smoke in the air on Tuesday.
The U.S. Forest Service is pile burning near Susanville.
Smoke may possibly will be seen from U.S. Highway 395 between Susanville and Herlong Junction, and communities of Janesville, Milford, and the surrounding area.

The Plumas National Forest plans to conduct prescribed burning operations this fall, pending all required approvals.
Officials said the work is expected to continue through fall and winter as weather conditions allow.
Prescribed burns help reduce overgrown vegetation and aim to protect communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfires.
Planned burn sites include:
Beckwourth Ranger District
- Big Hill Project, near Cromberg
Feather River Ranger District
- La Porte Project, near La Porte and Little Grass Valley Reservoir
- Challenge Project, near the community of Challenge
- Concow Project, near the community of Concow
- FRRD Piles, across multiple locations from Magalia to Challenge to La Porte
Mount Hough Ranger District
- Spanish Ranch, near Meadow Valley
- Butterfly, in Butterfly Valley outside Quincy
- North Quincy, near the town of Quincy
Officials advise drivers to watch for warning signs along roads near burn areas and to slow down and turn on headlights if smoke is present.
Residents may notice smoke during burns. For detailed air quality updates, the Forest Service recommends visiting AirNow.
“Weather conditions will be evaluated in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed burning activities may be cancelled,” officials said.
The Forest Service encourages the public to stay informed through the forest’s website and social media channels. County emergency management officials will also be notified when burning begins.
