A former officer with the Reno Police Department appeared in court on Thursday for allegedly violating two peoples' civil rights to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment charging 30-year-old Tyler Michael Baehr of Reno with two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law according to a release from the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada.

According to the indictment and statements made in court on December 31, 2023, Baehr allegedly deprived someone of the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure by taking her cell phone during a traffic stop and taking sexually explicit photos from it.

On August 12 of last year, Baehr allegedly deprived another person of the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure by taking her cell phone during a traffic stop and unlawfully searching through her private photos and messages.

A jury trial is set to begin on April 8.

If convicted, Baehr faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
