Focused on making U.S. roadways safer for everyone, the free national teen defensive driving program B.R.A.K.E.S. will make its first-ever visit to Reno.
B.R.A.K.E.S. stands for Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe, and will be in Reno on October 5 and 6, with a total of five classes being offered between the two days.
Car crashes are among the leading causes of death among teenagers.
Teens who have completed the B.R.A.K.E.S. training program are 64 percent less likely to get into a crash within the first few years after the training.
The 501(c)(3) charity was founded by drag racing champion Doug Herbert, in honor of his two sons who lost their lives in a car crash in 2008.
Herbert turned that personal tragedy into a mission that has trained more than 140,000 teens and their parents to date.
The program offers teens behind-the-wheel instruction from professional trainers, including current and former law enforcement officers and professional racing drivers.
B.R.A.K.E.S. is not a driver's ed course - it is a free, hands on advanced driver training program that maintains a two-to-one student-to-instructor ratio to maximize effectiveness.
Classes start Saturday, October 5 at 8:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Sunday October 6 offers classes at 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
The classes are free, but you must register to attend. For registration information, check out the B.R.A.K.E.S. website.
