Girls in Aviation Day

The Sierra Battle Born chapter of the nonprofit group Women in Aviation has officially opened registration for the 3rd annual Girls in Aviation Day.

This year's event will be held at Reno-Stead Airport's Freedom Terminal from 10:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21.

The event is free, but registration is required to attend.

"The purpose of Girls in Aviation Day is to showcase and promote career fields and recreational pursuits within aviation to young women," said Rachael Moore, who is spearheading the event.

Through a variety of speakers, exhibits, and hands-on learning, girls of ages 8-18 will have the opportunity to meet and be inspired by women pilots, mechanics, air traffic controllers, aerospace engineers and more.

During her career in the United States Air Force, Moore flew F-16 fighters in more than ten countries, and served as an instructor in pilot training.  Now, she flies passenger jets for a major air carrier.

"As an airline pilot, I get to meet so many great people from all walks of life," says Moore.  "I love when kids want to see the flight deck and meet the pilots!"

Anyone interested in attending this year's Girls in Aviation Day can register at the Sierra Battle Born Women in Aviation website.
