Nearly 300 units of blood were donated at 2 News Nevada's 17th annual Give 2 Live Blood Drive at the Atlantis, but the impact of the blood drive reached beyond the resort's Grand Ballroom.
While 298 units were collected at the blood drive itself, an increase in donations at other blood drives in the community brought the overall total throughout the community to 400 units according to Vitalant.
Vitalant says the donations are a huge help.
"We put the call out to help us rally and people really did, a lot of community blood drives throughout northern Nevada and even during this week we're trying to keep that momentum going strong," said Scott Edward, Senior Donor Recruitment Manager for Vitalant.
They say appointments have increased by 25% this week, though they are still seeing fewer donations now than they did before the pandemic.
Thank you to everyone who came out and gave, as well as those who plan to.
