A stretch of US Highway 6 in Mineral County has reopened after being shut down following a head-on crash that led to a major emergency response and a prolonged closure early Monday morning.

According to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office in an online post, US Highway 6 to California was shut down due to a head-on vehicle collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck, and the road would be closed for some time.

The crash happened on US Highway 6 in Mineral County and involved two single-occupant vehicles, a pickup truck, and a tractor-trailer. According to the Nevada State Police, preliminary information showed the pickup truck was driving left-of-center, resulting in an offset head-on collision with the tractor-trailer.

Rescue crews from both Nevada and California responded to the scene and assisted injured people. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals. There is no word on the condition of either driver.

The roadway has since reopened to traffic.
