Human remains were discovered in Elko County this week in an area near Devils Gate north of I-80. Law enforcement is investigating the case as a homicide.
Deputies from the Elko County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to a post on the ECSO Facebook page.
When deputies arrived, it was determined the bones were human, and a shallow grave was found.
The Elko County Detective’s Division began processing the crime scene and excavating the remains.
It has not been determined how old the grave is, and the remains could not be identified.
A full autopsy will be conducted by the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and help identify the victim.
The investigation is ongoing.
