NDOT Plan Ahead Alert

Drivers traveling on Interstate 80 in the Verdi area and Sparks will encounter lane reductions and ramp closures next week as the Nevada Department of Transportation conducts routine bridge inspections.

In the Verdi area, intermittent single-lane closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 through June 11 as crews inspect multiple Interstate 80 bridges crossing the Truckee River and nearby railroad tracks. Lane reductions will affect only one direction of traffic at a time.

On June 8, lanes will be reduced eastbound between Mogul and Boomtown. Westbound lanes at Gold Ranch will be reduced June 9, followed by eastbound lane reductions at Gold Ranch on June 10. On June 11, westbound lanes will be reduced between Mogul and Boomtown.

In Sparks, Interstate 80 will be intermittently reduced to one lane in each direction near Pyramid Way from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on June 9 and June 10. As in Verdi, only one direction of traffic will be reduced at a time.

Westbound lanes will be reduced June 9, and the Pyramid Way on-ramp to westbound Interstate 80 will be closed. On June 10, eastbound lanes will be reduced, and the Rock Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 80 will be closed.

Speed limits in work zones will be reduced to 55 mph. Transportation officials said the schedule is subject to change.

NDOT inspects most Nevada bridges, including city and county maintained structures, every two years. Bridges showing more extensive deterioration are inspected more frequently, while some newer bridges are inspected every four years.

The agency said its bridge inspection and rehabilitation program has helped Nevada bridges rank among the nation's best for eight consecutive years.
