UPDATE - August 14:

Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of the Nevada State Police, has identified the driver killed in Thursday night’s crash on Mt. Rose Highway.

The driver, a 52-year-old man from Dana Point, California, was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 11:02 p.m. on August 7 near Douglas Fir Drive.

A preliminary investigation shows a black 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 was traveling west in the number one lane when the driver veered into the westbound shoulder, striking a guardrail.

The SUV then crossed into the eastbound lanes, hit another guardrail, and came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder.

Two adult passengers in the car were not injured.

Based on witness statements and the car’s damage, investigators say the cause of the driver’s death is not believed to be from the crash.

The official cause of death is pending review by the Medical Examiner’s Office, and foul play is not suspected.
