Christmas isn't over yet, but when you're ready to dispose of your real Christmas tree or your strands of non-working lights, drop-off locations are going to be offered throughout the local area.
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is hosting drop-off locations for both at participating locations.
Real Christmas Trees can be dropped off at three locations and December 26 through January 11. The three locations are Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Reno Sports Complex, and Shadow Mt. Sports Complex. These locations are also drop-off sites for your non-working light strands.
Greater Nevada Credit Union will also be a drop-off location for non-working strands of lights in Reno and Sparks from December 15 through January 11.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is also taking only trees on January 3 and January 4 from 9 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
People can drop off at Truckee Meadows Fire Station - Spanish Springs, Truckee Meadows Fire Station - Lemmon Valley, and Truckee Meadows Fire Station - Washoe Valley.
KTMD says before dropping off their trees, make sure to remove all lights, ornaments, and tinsel. Flocked trees or wreaths are not for drop-off. All trees that are dropped off will be chipped into mulch for parks and beautification projects.
KTMD says a $5 or more donation is suggested but not required to help cover program costs. Volunteers are also still needed to staff Bartley Ranch, Reno Sports Complex, and Shadow Mountain locations. Register here to volunteer.Â
