A man was arrested after the stolen car he was driving broke down. It happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday on Mill Street near Renown.
Officers in the area noticed the car wasn’t moving despite a green light and stopped to investigate. The driver, 34-year-old John Stevens, got out of the car and started pushing it. Officers jumped in to help.
During the encounter, Stevens was not following commands from officers, exiting and re-entering the car. That’s when officers detained him.
During the investigation, officers found information that indicated the car may have been stolen. They also identified that Stevens was a sex offender who had recently been released from jail and had failed to register.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a local auto repair business just 10 minutes before it had broken down on Mill Street.
Stevens was arrested on multiple charges, including Grand Theft Auto, Vehicle Burglary, and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
