Sparks Police Department officials have released details about an arrest made this afternoon on North McCarran Boulevard.

At around 3:00 p.m., officers were called to the area near N McCarran Blvd and Victorian Ave in Sparks for a report of a violent disturbance.

When they got there, officers found that a woman had been beaten up - a man had allegedly hit the woman in the head with a metal chain, then tried to strangle her with it.

The victim was able to identify the suspect as Alejandro Ayala.

While officers were investigating the battery, a disturbance was called in at a nearby apartment complex - responding to that incident, officers found Ayala after he had reportedly damaged a car.

Ayala was not cooperative with officers, but was found and arrested.

Ayala has been charged with the crimes of domestic battery, domestic battery by strangulation, battery with a deadly weapon, obstructing justice and damage to property.
