A man has been arrested after allegedly firing shots into a home where a family was sleeping in south Carson City early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 4:38 a.m. on June 23 on Kingsley Avenue, according to a release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Initial investigation found that a bullet passed through the home and narrowly missed a sleeping child.

License plate reading cameras quickly identified a vehicle and a suspect allegedly involved in the shooting.

The suspect, Zachary Leo Vereschagin, was found in Gardnerville, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office helped Carson City detectives arrest him on Selkirk Drive in the Ranchos without incident.

A search warrant performed at that location turned up evidence of the shooting, according to the CCSO.

Vereschagin was booked into the Carson City Detention Center on charges including discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, neglect, endangerment, convicted person in possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and aggravated stalking.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
