The Reno Police Department held a memorial for Sergeant Ernest Kazmar who passed away last month.
A police procession traveled to the ceremony at the Summit Christian Church on Pyramid Way and included a flyover from a RAVEN helicopter and Reno and Sparks firefighters helping hang an American flag.
Inside the service, Chief Nance said Sergeant Kazmar served the community with courage, compassion and integrity.
"He demonstrated that when all of us in law enforcement know that when wearing the badge we choose to carry the weight of other's burdens... to stand watch when the world sleeps and to step forward when other's have stepped back."
Reno Police hired Sergeant Kazmar in 2009 after working for UNR Police and the Nye County Sheriff's Office.
He was 46 years old. Â
