A mother will serve up to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to poisoning her infant with prescription medication.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Alesha Marie Martin will be eligible for parole after serving four years.

Deputies say their investigation started last May after learning that a 14-month-old child suffered multiple unexplained medical emergencies. They the child was hospitalized on multiple occasions in both Nevada and Utah, raising concerns of possible intentional poisoning.

Authorities say specialized toxicology testing later confirmed the presence of a medication not prescribed to the child.

They say the investigation revealed that Martin intentionally gave prescription medication to her child on multiple occasions throughout May 2025, including while the child was hospitalized.

Martin was arrested and charged with felony child abuse/neglect and multiple counts of willfully poisoning or adulterating food, water, or medicine.

They say Martin ultimately pleaded guilty to willfully poisoning or adulterating food, water, or medicine and then was sentenced earlier this week.
