Washoe County Juvenile Services is alerting families about a text scam aimed at people involved in the juvenile justice system.
The scam messages claim to be from Washoe County Juvenile Services Traffic Division and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, demanding payment for traffic fines.
Officials stress the texts are fraudulent. Families should not click any links, provide personal information, or send money. If a message seems suspicious, Juvenile Services urges people to call directly to confirm.
“Our mission is to support youth and families while promoting accountability and community safety. It is concerning when individuals attempt to exploit or take advantage of youth and families who are involved in our system,” Juvenile Services Director Elizabeth Florez said.
