No threat was found after reports of a smell causing throat irritation at a downtown Reno apartment complex on Monday night.

People on the fourth floor of the Truckee River Terrace Apartments reported a smell in the hallways that was making their throats itchy, according to a spokesperson for the Reno Fire Department.

People on floors four and five of the apartments were asked to shelter in place.

When crews entered the building, they noticed their throats becoming irritated as well.

Crews found that a person on the fourth floor had been making chemicals in their room, but no substances or anything illegal were found.

There were no injuries, and no threat was discovered.

Authorities did note that there was a recent fire in the fourth-floor laundry room, and the smell could have also been caused by materials used to clean up after that fire.

The manager of the building was told to ventilate the floors.
