Red flag warnings are in effect on Saturday until 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Affected areas include Reno-Sparks, Carson City, Storey County and Douglas County.
This week has served as a stark reminder of the dangers of fire weather. Several fires broke out in our area, including one near the Grand Sierra Resort.
These fires sparked outside of a red flag warning, so imagine the risk this weekend.
Tuesday was the most active day of the week. On top of the aforementioned fire in Sparks, a fire on Rattlesnake Mountain threatened businesses in south Reno, and a wildfire at the base of Peavine Mountain prompted evacuation orders near Red Rock Road.
Friday night, a bush caught fire and caused slight damage to a nearby building.
Even without an assist from the weather, fires can happen anytime, anywhere.
While red flag warnings are in effect, don't do anything that could kick up a spark, like yard work, target shooting, and outdoor welding. If you need to move a trailer, make sure the chains aren't dragging.
Wildfires are a strong possibility, so make sure you have a go-bag and an evacuation route in mind just in case you need to move.
