Unidentified object in sky

DID YOU SEE IT?

We received multiple calls into our newsroom Monday night from residents across Northern Nevada as they were left puzzled by the unusual orange looking object or debris that was spotted in the sky.

The strange sight prompted a flurry of speculation on our social media. Some suggested it could be a piece of space junk, while others speculated it could be a rare atmospheric phenomenon.

One of our viewers Tatyana Chaplin shared the video below.

We have received viewer video and multiple calls into our newsroom about something in the northern Nevada skies seemingly falling from space. We are looking into what it could have been. This is video from viewer Tatyana Chaplin.

Authorities have yet to confirm the nature of the debris, but experts are investigating the incident.

One of our viewers even found the following website where eyewitnesses can submit their observations.

The American Meteor Society says "the object was not a fireball and that it was most likely re-entry debris from a rocket or satellite and that it could have been debris from the satellite known as DRAGON FREEDOM-2 DEB that was launched from Cape Canaveral on September 28, 2024."

2 News Nevada's Makayla Hardy is looking into what it could have been and will have more on tonight's newscast.   Â
