The 2025 Nevada Tribal Summit will be taking place this coming week, bringing together tribal leaders, health professionals, elders and care partners.
The summit happens on Tuesday, May 6 at the Nixon Tribal Gym in Nixon. Everyone is invited, and it's free to attend.
The theme for this year's summit is "Mind: Exploring Cognitive Health and Mental Well-Being in Native Communities." The discussion will center on promoting mental well-being, including strengthening cognitive health and supporting people living with dementia.
Organizers say the event is the first in a planned five-year series of summits, each organized around the "5 Ms" of age-related care: Mind, Mobility, Medications, Multicomplexity and what Matters most.
Prior summits drew over 200 participants representing over 14 tribes from Nevada and elsewhere in the country.
A keynote, panel discussions, film screening, group activities and a resource fair can be expected by those in attendance.
