A new traffic signal at the intersection of McCarran Boulevard and Leadership Parkway/Keystone Avenue in northwest Reno will be activated during the morning of June 26.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, since February, intermittent road and shoulder closures have taken place in the area to allow for signal installation and other improvements at the intersection.
Drivers are advised to expect changed traffic patterns as the new signal becomes operational.
Motorists should be prepared to stop at the signal, plan for possible delays, and follow all posted signage and signals.
While the intersection at Keystone Avenue and Leadership Parkway with McCarran Boulevard will remain open, drivers may encounter brief closures on side streets as activation is finalized.
There was no previous signal at the intersection, which is near regional trailheads and public spaces and has seen increased traffic due to surrounding development.
The new traffic signal is intended to improve mobility and provide protected turns onto and from McCarran Boulevard.
Additional upgrades include new crosswalks on all four sides of the intersection, updated roadway striping, and adjusted turn lanes.
The City of Reno will maintain and operate the signal.
The project is a joint effort between the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Commission, aligned with the McCarran Boulevard Corridor Study.
A portion of the signal construction costs was funded by the RTC using local fuel tax revenue.
