No Debt Career Fair

Nevadans looking for a new career path, or a way to earn while they learn, will soon have a chance to explore new opportunities.

The Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner and the Nevada State Apprenticeship Council are set to host No Debt Career Fairs in Northern and Southern Nevada, aimed at connecting people with paid apprenticeship programs.

In Northern Nevada, the event is scheduled for May 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Truckee Meadows Community College on Edison Way in Reno, during Apprenticeship Week.

The fairs focus on career pathways that allow people to earn a paycheck while gaining skills, offering an alternative to traditional education that can leave students with significant debt.

Registered apprenticeships combine paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction, giving workers the chance to earn industry-recognized credentials while building real-world experience. These programs are often described as the original four-year degree, with structured training, wage progression, and long-term career opportunities.

Across Nevada, apprenticeship programs continue to expand as part of workforce development efforts. The state has more than 8,237 registered apprentices, 73 programs, and more than 760 participating employers across nearly 100 occupations.

While apprenticeships have historically been tied to construction trades, programs now include healthcare, education, hospitality, information technology, and other industries.

“Apprenticeships offer a practical pathway into high-quality careers,” said Director Toni Giddens. "Participants gain valuable skills while earning a paycheck and avoiding the debt that often comes with traditional education. These programs help workers build stable careers and help employers develop the skilled workforce Nevada needs.”

At the fair, attendees can meet employers and program sponsors, learn about paid training opportunities, explore different career paths, and speak with workforce partners about how to apply.
