Law enforcement agencies throughout Northern Nevada are participating in the 25th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Relay Run this week.
On April 29, the Sparks Police Department will join other agencies across the state to honor Nevada peace officers who were killed in the line of duty.
The relay began on April 23, at Police Memorial Park in Las Vegas and will conclude at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Carson City on April 30.
The baton, carried throughout the run, bears the names of 157 fallen Nevada officers as of 2024.
The baton will be delivered to the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony scheduled for May 1
The run covers more than 400 miles over nine days.
It also serves to bring attention to the start of National Police Memorial Week, which will take place in mid-May.
In addition, a fallen officer’s name has already been added to the list for enshrinement in 2026.
