Update (9/27 2:56 p.m.):

Authorities have identified the man who died in the plane crash as 74-year old Donald Bartholomew.

The ID was made by comparing DNA samples obtained from the crash and from Bartholomew's home.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two planes collided in mid-air at the Minden-Tahoe Airport Monday morning, leaving one dead.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is responding to the collision, which happened around 9:45 a.m. this morning.

One of the planes involved in the collision was able to make a landing at the airport.

The two passengers in that plane were reported safe without injuries.

The other plane crashed into a field off of U.S. 395 near Johnson Lane.

One fatality has been confirmed at this time.

The airport is open, with one runway available.

An investigation is ongoing.
