The owner of Battle Born Fence has been arrested on a felony theft warrant related to contracting without a license.
The Nevada State Contractors Board worked with the Capitol Police Division of the Nevada State Police in the arrest of unlicensed contractor Jesse Steven Diaz, according to a release from the NSCB.
Diaz had a felony warrant for theft up to $5,000.
Diaz was hired in 2023 by a customer in northern Nevada to build a fence and gates on their residential property.
Diaz allegedly received a $2,500 cash deposit from the customer and did none of the contracted work.
The NSCB opened an investigation following receipt of the customer's complaint that Diaz didn't do the work or supply any materials.
The complaint was determined to be valid and was forwarded to the Attorney General's Office for prosecution, which led to the felony warrant being issued.
The NSCB reminds all consumers to verify that the contractors they hire have an active contractor's license.
By law, a contractor’s license is required for any work over $1,000, including labor and material costs, and is also required for all life/safety trades such as plumbing, electrical, or HVAC services.
You can verify a contractor has a license at this link, by downloading the NSCB app, or by calling the NSCB's offices directly at (775) 688-1141.
