21 people were cited for soliciting prostitution during a two-day human trafficking operation in Placer County.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office conducted the operation with several local law enforcement agencies, the Placer County District Attorney's Office and Stand Up Placer.

All of the suspects were cited for soliciting prostitution. Four also received citations for drug possession.

One person was also found carrying a concealed, loaded firearm without a permit and will face additional charges.

Authorities say the operation also focused on education. After each contact, detectives and representatives from Stand Up Placer spoke with the individuals about the potential harm caused by purchasing sex and its connection to human trafficking.

In a post on Facebook, the sheriff's office said Human trafficking is a complex issue and there is no single approach to addressing it, "In Placer County, law enforcement and our community partners work from several different angles, including identifying and supporting survivors, investigating traffickers and addressing the factors that can contribute to exploitation."
