A report of animal cruelty near the Grand Sierra Resort led to a foot pursuit and an arrest after Reno police said video footage confirmed a man kicked a dog, causing the animal to fall and slide across the ground.

Officers responded to the report at about 10:46 p.m. on Oct. 19, according to the Reno Police Department in an online post. The report indicated a man had kicked his dog before leaving the area.

When officers located the suspect and tried to speak with him, police said he ran away. Despite multiple commands to stop, he continued fleeing, leading officers on a foot pursuit through the surrounding area.

Officers eventually caught up with the suspect and took him into custody. Video footage later confirmed he had kicked the dog, according to police.

Both dogs were safely taken into the care of Animal Control.
