People in parts of Western Sierra County may want to get ready for a possible power outage this weekend.
According to the Sierra County Sheriff's Office in an online post, PG&E has notified the county of a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff that could begin Saturday morning and continue through Sunday.
Downtown Downieville is not expected to be affected, according to PG&E. Areas around Downieville and other communities in Western Sierra County could still lose power.
For people who may be affected, the sheriff's office recommends charging phones and other electronics, making sure generators and backup power supplies are ready and having enough fuel on hand. People who rely on medical equipment or other essential devices that need electricity should also make plans ahead of time.
There is no confirmation at this time of a Liberty Utilities power shutoff affecting Loyalton, Sierra Brooks or surrounding areas in Eastern Sierra County. The sheriff's office said it is continuing to monitor the situation.
The areas affected by a PSPS, as well as the timing, can change as weather conditions and forecasts change. Residents are encouraged to keep checking updates from their electric utility and the Sierra County Sheriff's Office.
