Shooting Sutro

October 27:

A Reno fatal shooting investigation led detectives to a 44-year-old man who refused to get out of his vehicle while armed with a handgun, setting off a police chase that ended with about 30 minutes of negotiations before he surrendered.

Edgar Campos-Garcia was located Monday night in the area of 865 South Rock Boulevard, where detectives with the Reno Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit attempted to stop him, according to police.

Campos-Garcia refused to get out of his vehicle and fled. Detectives pursued him and eventually blocked his vehicle in the area of 655 East Nugget Avenue.

He remained inside the vehicle with a handgun and continued to refuse to exit. After about 30 minutes of negotiations with a detective, Campos-Garcia surrendered peacefully, police said.

He was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges of open murder, obstructing and resisting with a deadly weapon, felony eluding and operating a motor vehicle with expired registration.

The investigation remains ongoing. Campos-Garcia is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
