We received an overwhelming amount of viewer footage of the big storm last night - a wide range of lightning strikes, flooded roads, heavy downpour and rainbows.

The National Weather Service says this was quite a unique storm. They tell us the storm lined up between a 50- and 100-year rain event - but don't let that term fool you.

Dawn Johnson, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, says, "A lot of people confuse this with 'Oh, this can't happen again for another 50 or 100 years' but that's a bit of misleading way of saying it. It's actually more of a reoccurrence interval. So, this is the type of storm that has a 1-2% chance of happening in any given year."

There certainly were impacts from the storm, especially to travel.

People who travel daily on Mayberry Drive had to take some detours due to a mudslide blocking the road last night. The City of Reno says over three feet of water built up, trapping two cars that attempted to drive through.

Director of Maintenance and Operations Travis Truhill says, "If you see standing water on a roadway, do not try driving through it. It's just too dangerous. You can't tell how deep the water is, and your vehicle can get stuck."

Truhill says they were able to successfully tow both cars out. He tells us crews have been working since 9:00 in the morning. The road is now open.

Heavy rainfall has caused some other floods around town, including one that temporarily shut down a part of Terminal Way near the intersection on Vassar Street. Luckily, this street is now clear and open too.

We caught up with some kids at a park today who told us they, along with their pets, were pretty freaked out from it all.

Malakai, a young boy visiting from California, says, "It was scary - the rain was really hard pounding on the windows. It felt like the windows were cracking. There were a few thunders, and our dogs were really scared."

Luckily Malakai says they didn't experience a power outage like thousands of others did last night. Over 4,500 customers were impacted during the storm. Most of those outages are now repaired.
