The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for multiple areas across the region on Saturday.
Areas affected include southern Washoe County, Douglas County, Storey County, western Lyon County, far southern Lassen County, and Carson City.
The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and was issued for gusty winds and low humidity for the Northern Sierra Front.
Winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
Humidity could be as low as 18 percent.
These factors can cause fires to grow rapidly before firefighters can contain them.
People are advised to avoid outdoor activities that can cause sparks near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or starting campfires.
