The City of Reno Planning Commission has approved a tentative map for a new housing subdivision in south Reno.
The new neighborhood would be located along Veterans Parkway and South Meadows Parkway and include just under 200 single-unit two story detached family homes.Â
The tentative map was approved just around 30 minutes after the meeting began, and the plans include suburban mixed uses with parks, greenways and open space.
Many public utilities, like schools and first responders, are available adjacent to the site.
During the meeting public comment was sparse.
Much of the feedback was dedicated to complaints having to do with the issue of traffic, which the plans include solutions for, with new signal lights being included at the northeast and south sides of the proposed site.
When it comes to adjacent services, there is a regular police patrol of the area as well as a fire station approximately 5 minutes away in response time.Â
Many of the environmental health laws are also met for this project, with issues such as water, air pollution, sewage disposal and impact on wildlife all meeting current Planned Unit Development guidelines.
The Planned Unit Development will also see that each household receives $500 for the affordable housing fund, over $600 dedicated to first responders such as fire, police and rescue, and $50 for youth sports programs.
The new site in the Talus Valley is also in close proximity to both an elementary and middle school.Â
The site also has regional trail connectivity for outdoor enthusiasts, and will feature an 11-acre community park and 3 neighborhood parks maintained by a maintenance association.Â
With the approval of this tentative mapping plan, the city planners will move forward with this project, as work has already begun in the Talus Valley to introduce these new "4-Pack and 6-Pack" family homes into the area.Â
