A recent drug arrest in Reno is showing how valuable drones can be in helping first responders and police.
Officers say earlier this week they responded to Continental Drive near Regency Way after getting reports of people using drugs in the area.
As they responded, the department's drone allowed officers to safely monitor the scene in real time.
During the investigation, police say the drone showed Chance Raulston trying to hide items in the dirt before officers approached him.
Officers say they found a baggie that later returned a presumptive positive result for fentanyl. Approximately 0.59 grams of fentanyl was recovered.
Raulston was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (less than 14 grams).
"This arrest demonstrates how the Reno Police Department’s Drone as a First Responder program enhances officer safety, improves situational awareness, and helps officers quickly locate evidence while holding offenders accountable," the department says on Facebook.
