University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is celebrating the grand opening of its new biobank.
The biobank will function as a secure repository for biological samples, including blood, urine and tissue, along with associated health information that can be used in research studies.
The university says it's a major expansion of the institution's research infrastructure that will support scientific discovery, innovation and improved health outcomes.
"The new biobank provides our researchers with on-site access to a wide variety of biological samples," said Samantha Sipusic, CCRP, coordinator of translational research at UNR Med. "With the biobank coming to campus, we will have expanded research infrastructure that can assist principal investigators in developing new treatments, biomarkers and medications.”
The university says the new facility will allow researchers to pursue more complex and collaborative studies.
