A couple of inner tubers on the Truckee River needed help from the Reno Fire Department during a water rescue this afternoon.

According to Battalion Chief John McNamara with the Reno Fire Department, they received a call at around 6:10 p.m. regarding two people stuck in the river, one with a possible leg injury.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two women in the river on inner tubes, clinging to a rock and unable to exit the water. Neither woman was wearing a life jacket.

The women were able to hang on until the rescue crews were able to get out to them using inflatable rafts, and helped the women out of the river.

Both of the women refused medical care and no other injuries were reported.

Officials want to remind everyone that even though the weather is getting warmer, the Truckee River is still dangerously cold - and also to always wear a life jacket or other personal flotation device (PFD) when out on the water.
