It's expected to be a busy night in the downtown Reno area tonight, and the Reno Police Department will be keeping a close eye on the crowds.
They tell us that they've actually been making preparations for months.
"We actually started planning several months in advance," says Commander Daniel Bond. "We work with all the casinos and all the venues that have an increase in patrons during this event just to make sure we can provide adequate services to make sure our public is safe."
Commander Bond says that they also spent months hiring more officers in order to increase patrols specifically for downtown.
"We have an increase in officers both assigned to our dui unit and those who have received additional training to go out and about to make sure we leave our roadways safe for everybody else."
With so many people expected to be going out Sunday night, Reno Police say this is a full team effort with all agencies.
"We work with our agencies all around us. The valley is aware of the communication plans and any issues that we may have. We all adequately staff as best we can to make sure everybody is safe," Bond adds.
Reno Police encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly.
"If you're going to drink, drink inside, stay inside the casinos or whatever venue you're at when you're drinking. If you're going to go outside to enjoy the fireworks stay outside," says Bond.
