The Salvation Army in Reno is seeking senior citizens and veterans who need free split-system heating and cooling units.

These units were a surplus from the construction of The Lakes at Lemmon Valley apartment complex and were given to the Salvation Army.

According to the Salvation Army, the installation will be free of cost from professionals at locally owned businesses, an effort from Custom Aire President Brandon Watkins.

“These units are brand new, and they’re going to be a great and needed comfort to community members,” said Major Randy Hartt, Northern Nevada Coordinator for The Salvation Army. “The fact that the fine folks at Custom Aire are going to install these units means that the job will be done right and the recipients can have peace of mind knowing that they’ll be kept warm during those cold months and cool when the hot months of summer arrive shortly.”

People who want to apply, can do so by going to the Salvation Army’s Social Services office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Salvation Army says people should bring proof of residence in Washoe County and a valid ID. They also say owners of existing multi-unit housing for seniors and veterans may also apply.
