Shortly after 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, an oversized semi-truck traveling east on I-80 struck lights and conduit on the University Way overpass. The impact tore down wiring and caused debris to fall onto vehicles passing below.
Several cars were hit by the falling debris, resulting in at least six separate vehicles crashing into or being struck by the debris.
The right-most two eastbound lanes were closed for a while so that crews from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) could repair the damage.
NHP reports no injuries from the crashes themselves, though one person is being checked for medical concerns as a precaution.
This is a developing story; updates will be provided as they become available.
