On the second Saturday of every month, the Sierra Rocketry Association launches rockets at Misfits Flat near Stagecoach.

The weather allowed plenty of rockets to launch and the club was excited about Saturday's event because it was one of the biggest turnouts they've ever had.

For some people, the event was just for fun, but for others, a successful launch could qualify them for the next level of high-power rocket certification.

"For high level rocketry there's three levels of certification, out here there is people doing level ones. There is quite a few people that belong to our club that have level three certifications and level three is the highest level of certification," said Brian Erickson, Sierra Rocketry Association member.

Earning a higher rocket certification allows you to use higher powered motors.

In order to pass the test for a higher certification, you must meet a certain criterion and fly the rocket in front of a certified rocketeer.

"I'm one of the people who can certify these people if they have a successful flight. So we saw the up part and we brought it back and I just wanted to see that it is still in one piece and that it could fly again, and that's a pass," said Patrick Harden, Sierra Rocketry Association member.

The Sierra Rocketry Association can also help people learn how to build rockets, launch them, and even get high power certified.
