Drivers in Sparks are in for longer waits starting Monday, as lane closures along a key stretch of Sparks Boulevard shift to around-the-clock work.

Beginning January 26, the inside northbound and southbound lanes on Sparks Boulevard between Baring Boulevard and Prater Way will be closed 24/7 as part of the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County’s ongoing roadway project.

The change extends the closures about three-quarters of a mile and will remain in place through May 2026.

The extended work hours are designed to allow crews to widen the road while reducing the overall construction timeline by several months.

“This change allows us to work more efficiently and shorten the overall construction timeline,”  said RTC Project Manager Garrett Rodgers. “We know this is an adjustment for drivers, but these extended closures will help deliver the project sooner while maintaining safety for both workers and the traveling public.”

Drivers should plan for delays and allow extra travel time while the work continues.Â
