A Sparks man was sentenced to prison on Monday, December 15, following a case that began with a woman screaming for help outside her apartment.
On February 20, Sparks Police Officers responded to an emergency call at an apartment complex on Sullivan Lane, reporting a man attempting to push a woman into a car while she was screaming for the police.
Patrol officers arrived to find the car and the people involved had already left. The woman was later located with minor injuries.
Officers from the Neighborhood Police Unit, which focuses on multi-unit housing within Sparks, took over the investigation. After interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, they identified a suspect.
Further investigation led officers to develop probable cause to arrest 25-year-old Michael Pineda on charges of second-degree kidnapping and third-offense domestic battery, both felonies.
On April 3, detectives with the Regional Crime Suppression Unit located Pineda and took him into custody without incident. He was later found guilty of the charges.
On December 15, Pineda was sentenced to four to 10 years for second-degree kidnapping and two to five years for third-offense domestic battery.
