Reno Police Department Assistant Chief Oliver Miller

Reno Police Department Assistant Chief Oliver Miller has resigned from the Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.

The commission confirmed his departure in an email on Wednesday, saying he resigned on Tuesday, March 10.

Miller’s resignation comes as the Reno Police Department deals with a separate investigation involving Chief Kathryn Nance and five other people in the department who have not yet been identified by the city or the department.

The department placed Nance and the five people on administrative leave on Monday while investigators review alleged violations of City policy.

On Wednesday evening, Miller commented on his resignation on his personal Facebook page.

"I have received a number of inquiries regarding today’s media updates. In light of the recent allegations, I resigned my role as Chair of the Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission on Monday. I made this decision to ensure the Commission is not diminished or distracted during the administrative investigation.

My resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing, but rather as a decision made out of respect for the position and the important work of the Commission. It is about protecting the integrity of the office, not the individual holding it.

I remain employed with the Reno Police Department and deeply committed to serving our community," said Miller in his post.

Officials have not released details about the alleged violations or the scope of the investigation.

The Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training oversees certification and training standards for law enforcement officers across Nevada.
